(This is not a normal blog, in which the first entry is made at the bottom, and newer entries are added on above it. The whole story, written originally in 1989, was put in here at once (one chapter per page), so if you want to read it chronologically correctly, don't treat it as a blog, click on the "Readings" links at left to read them!)

Name:
Location: Tengan, Uruma-Shi, Okinawa-ken, Japan

I am an MK (missionary kid) and mother. I grew up in Okinawa to missionary parents, a Japanese Canadian and a Japanese American from Hawaii. My mother began missionary service in 1950, Dad in 1955. So I grew up speaking in Japanese in church but studying in English in a school started for missionary kids. My husband is Japanese (from Koriyama), and both of my children, born in Koriyama, speak only Japanese. We moved to Saitama after the earthquake of 2011. My parents have gone to Glory, and my daughter is now a mother--which makes me a grandmother! We (me, my husband, my son) moved down to Okinawa in September 2024.

from the Author

"Why don't you write about your family history? It's too wonderful not to be written down someplace!"

My Okinawan grandparents met and were married as immigrants in America. There, my parents were born, saved, and called to return to Japan as missionaries. The Lord then led my mom and dad to meet, marry, and return to the island of Okinawa, where my two sisters and I were born and raised.

Family history this will not be, for the only account given will be my mother's. History, however, it is, for the following events actually occurred, although they will be related in the first person "I" for continuity.

Kimiko. My missionary mother. Hearing her speak at deputation meetings as well as seeking her walk in obedience to God's guidance have prompted this writing. As a result of her testimony, I have come upon a greater realization of His goodness. My prayer is that each reader will, as I have, respond in awe of our living God:

"I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear,
but now mine eye seeth thee."
Job 42:5
